Preparing for his part in next week's Roald Dahl Day gave actor Dafydd Emyr an insight into the private world of the author only his family and friends ever saw.
Dafydd was given the chance to see inside the famous gypsy caravan where Dahl worked, when they visited his widow Felicity at their Gypsy House home in Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire.
'Inside, it was just like a shed, except it had a highly-dangerous heating system,' said Dafydd, who is playing Danny's Dad in Danny the Champion of the World at the New Theatre later this month.
'It had been left just as Dahl used it.
There was an electric fire hoisted above him on a piece of string with a pulley system which he could lift and lower as he needed. It was a magical experience being invited to his home.'
