William shakespeare short biography for students

The S range, brought together to celebrate the quatercentenary of the birth of William Shakespeare, included dozens of fabrics as well as decorative tapestries.

The fabrics ranged from soft cottons, vibrant silks and traditional tweeds, and covered a full spectrum of colours. The fabric ‘Kenilworth’, shown here as the first fabric of the sample book in the Trust’s collection, evoked place, heritage and literature, reflected in the strong colour combinations and boldly realised flowers. 

The range was named for characters and places in Shakespeare’s  plays, as well as places in Warwickshire that linked to romantic or dramatic stories from William Shakespeare’s biography. 

 

 

Many of the fabrics included the visible weave and contrasting threads that were typical of Tibor fabrics and which encouraged tactile engagement with the textiles.
